Show CENTENNIAL1 'EVENTS ! ' ; t "Barretts of Wimpole Street" at the Kingsbury Hall of the University Uni-versity of Utah. There will be evening performances on April 17 and 18, and a matinee On April 18. Playing opposite Miss Cornell will be Brian Ahern,e, stage and screen star. The production pro-duction is considered one of the outstanding achievements of the Centennial year. Centennial Housing Problem " Necessity for additional housing hous-ing in almost all sections of the state in order to accomodate the expected Centennial visitors is already apparent. Gus P. Back-man, Back-man, director of the Utah Centennial Cen-tennial has asked all communities communi-ties to list any extra rooms or housing ..units which might be made available during the Centennial, Cen-tennial, particularly in communities com-munities close to heavy tourist traffic. This includes areas near the national parks or saenpc rendezvous. In Salt Lake City and Ogclen large scale housing drives will be attempted so that a great many more vsitors may be accomodated than ordinarily. Sl.OOQ Play Award Only two months remain for Utah dramatists to submit their plays for the $1,000 award being offered by the Arts Division of the Utah Centennial Commission. Commis-sion. The plays must be submitted sub-mitted not later than June' 1. The play must be of conventional conven-tional length, factual or fictitious, ficti-tious, comedy or tragedy but must be consistfjit with Pioneer ideals and relate Utah history, past or present or both. The ) $1,000 award will be In payment for rights until August 15, 1948 when all rights revert to the author. The judges may reject any or all plays, may make a selection for the $1,000 award, and other awards, if they deem it necessary, for plays to be used which have not won first place. Original pioneers from all sections sec-tions of Utah will be honored May 1, at the Salt Lake LDS Tabernacle in an obserance k marking the "statutory" opening of the Centennial, year. By law, the Centennial observance begins be-gins on May 1 and extends until October 15; although many events ev-ents have been held before and will be held after the set dates.. The living pioneers are classed as those who came across the plains to Utah previous to the opening of the railroad on May 10, 1869. That means they must have made the journey by wa-' wa-' gon or handcart. It does not include those who were born in Utah previous to 1869.
