Show BOWLING NEWS The Southside, Southeast, and Sugarhouse Major leagues have each bowled two sessions since the news was last reported, but the other leagues at the Southeast South-east Courts were suspended Cur-the Cur-the holidays. On December 22, the South-side South-side league was paced by Sugar Bowl with a 2707 series and 989 game, including Walt Fellows high 243. Ed Malain of Camera Center had 614 for high individual individ-ual series. The next Tuesday night Barhett and Weiss won 4 points with a nice 2837 series, and went into first place in the league, one point above Camera Centre. Sugar Bowl again had high game, 997, whiile Hugo Ensign En-sign was outstanding single performer per-former with 667 for series and a 1 244 game. The Independents of the South-league South-league had high series with 2587 on December 23, but Phil and Joe's team took 4 points to hold the top spot for one brief week. Pepsi-Cola had 910 for high game while Bob Scott rolled three 202 games for a 606 series and Mel Anderson had 221 for high single game. First place in the league went to the Independents the next week when they won 4 points, but Holsum swept high scores with 2696 series, 944 gams, and Stn Butts' 629 and 255. Stan is upholding the tradition of good bowling in the family with some nice performances. M. K. Rankin of the Red Crown team smashed the Maples for a 650 series including a 239 game in the Sugarhouse Major league last week. He led his team in a 2776 series and 999 game. This week Van Morley was the hero of the Thor Tools five, rolling a 652 with a smashing 266 game. His team rolled 2815 for high series and 970 for high game. (Continued to page 5) BOWLING NEWS (Continued from page 1) Week ending December 20 Of interest to state bowling fans was the first round of ten games rolled at the Southeast December 20. Contestants for the match championship of the state are the defending champion, l-Ierm Schettler of Salt Lake, and A. P. Smartt of Ogden, and at the end of the first 10 games Schettler is well out in front. He won 8 of the 10 games with a 1953 score. The Independent .league had only 4 teams playing last week. Motor Merc, had 2564 for high series and Mollerup Moving rolled roll-ed 895 for high games. High individuals in-dividuals were Les Stewart with a 567 series and V. Thurgoort with a 223 game. Bill Ward burned up the alleys in the Southside league last week with a 267 game. His team, Sugar Su-gar Bowl, had a 2926 series and 1026 game, but could take only 2 points from Dee's Hamburger, rolling 999, 997, and a 2910 total, including Fred Sandberg's 641 and Dave Chipman's 630. Other outstanding out-standing scores were: Hugo Ensign's En-sign's 625, Marv Cleverly's 613, and Barnett and Weiss' 1002 game. In the ladies' Forest league the Elm team, led by Erma Lewis with her nice 193 game, rolled 2058 for high series and 742 high game. Madge Garton had 481 for high series. Palace Market of the Southeast South-east league took 4 from the Independents Inde-pendents while Phil and Joe were dividing with Mecca Bar to leave top spot in a three way tie last week. The leaders are Phil and Joe, Independents, and Palace Market, and Phil and Joe had 2669 for high series. Holsum's 943 was high game and they tie with Ashton Heating in second place. ,C. Gooderham was high individual individu-al with a 581 series, and L. Lewis had 215 for high single. Utah Pigeon Club with 2565 for high sries went into first place in the Lumbermen's league last Friday. Tied in second spot are M.-M. Mill and Auto Supply Granite Mill got hot one same for a 912, while Fred Sandberg had a 598 series and R. Wilburn of the same team had a nice 237 In the ladies Cardinal league, Margaret Baylor helped the Fashion Cleaners team to a record with her record-breaking 235 game in their 822 game. She rolled roll-ed a nice 508 series as well. Quality Qual-ity Press took team series with 2193, while Michels again moveG to first place in the league with a 4 point win. Another good game of the evening was Lena Draney's 192. Sugar Bowl took high series and game in the Sugarhouse league lea-gue this week with their 2655 946 scores. F. McGregor of Al's Barbecue, who is getting into the 600 brackets often lately, had the sassion's high series, 643; but Hickcox of Red Crown rolled a mean 266 to beat him for high single game. Tom Hand and Mac each had a 235 game, and Hickcox' Hick-cox' ' series was 629. Missing from this league is Dick James who lost his life last week in the airliner air-liner crash near Provo. |
