Show British Sub Lives Up To Name in Bout at Sea LONDON. A British submarine named Stubborn lived up to her name in a desperate bout with enemy en-emy depth charges and a gale at sea, the admiralty disclosed here. The submarine, commanded by Lieut. W. A. Duff, 24, successfully attacked two German convoys in Norwegian waters and then was herself her-self attacked and crippled. Her controls ruined, the vessel was kept on an even keel by having the crew move forward or aft. Finally, after two days of stubborn battle for survival in a storm, the submarine was located by British destroyers and towed into jport. |
