The Bulletin's birthday greetings greet-ings go to a comparatively new resident of the Sugarhouse district, dis-trict, having moved into his new home at 2846 Beverly Street in December, 1940, Mr. Roy Gates, Garage Serviceman for the Utah Light and Traction Company. Mr. Gates, or Roy as he is known to his fellew employes, ! was born in Salt Lake City, Nov-' ember 23. 1904, and here in the lo- j cal schools he received his education. edu-cation. After leaving school, he worked in and played ball for various Coal Mines throughout the state, he entered the employ of the Utah Light and Traction Company on May 17, 1929. As a baseball player Hoy is well known in Salt Lake City, and i his big bat materially assisted the Traction nine in winning the U. P. & L. inter-comrany league j Championship in 1929-30 and 31. at which time the league was dis- I continued inasmuch as opposing pitchers refused to "pitch and duck" any longer. He continued con-tinued his baseball career by playing play-ing for various Amateur nines in the Salt Lake Amateur Federation, Federa-tion, capping it when he played first base for the the Red and White Club when they won the State Amateur Baseball Champion Champ-ion in 1932. Mr. Gates is married and has three children. His hobby at the present time is landscaping and beautifying the premises around , his new horhe, but he is still an j ardent baseball follower and find;: ime to play a few games of soft-(ball, soft-(ball, besides following Amateur and Pioneer league games each summer. Roy has no specialties planned for the day as he has to work, but expects to spend the evening of his birthday at home in the j company of his wife and children. |
