Show GRANITE FURNITURE LEADS IN JUNIOR CAGE RACE rr:: Sixteen teams of over 150 boys are now in their second half of play in the Westminster Junior Basketball League which is sponsored spon-sored this year by the City Recreation Rec-reation Department and headed by Herb Clark. Eight teams are competing in the junior division and eight in a senior group. Granite Furniture, winner of last year's title is now at the top of the Junior Group, having won eight straight games. All of their wins have been decisive except ex-cept for a close 20-16 game handed them by Paramount which has a strong quintet headed by Bill Pizza, Ken Done, and Cbrist-ensen. Cbrist-ensen. Other Junior aggregations which should give the Furniture team plenty of trouble in the second sec-ond half are Southeast Furniture, diet & Wess, Sheffield I. G. A., Edgehill, Wasatch and Olson Trucking. The loss of McMurdie. Flashy Granite center, should make the second a close race. The senior scramble for the title has been much closer with a number of strong teams competing. compet-ing. Clark's Insurance, the old Sperry team which captured laurels laur-els last year, is leading the race along with West and a playoff for the first half honors will be held in the near future. Other members of the senior league aree Richards, Hawthorne, Harry's Garage, Vikings, Bryan Seniors, and Averetts. Games are played each Saturday Satur-day in the spacious Westminster Gymnasium. In order to stimulate more interest write-ups concerning play in the league will appear in the Sugar House Bulletin each Friday. Fri-day. Leading scorers, play description, des-cription, schedules, and all-star selections will appear. |
