Show CLUB REPORTS SHOW BONDS BIG ITEM Dr. E. E. Monson Urges More Work An opportunity for comparing work arose Tuesday noon when the officers of the four civic clubs of Sugar House gave reports on what their orgaizations have done during the past few months. Defense De-fense Bonds led the list. Each club had a- different manner man-ner of saving funds for bonds and advised the other groups of their plans. The Business and Professional Profes-sional Women collect the usual 75c for dinner but serve a meal costing only 25c per member The balance of the amount collected goes to a fund for purchasing a bond. The Rotary club has equipped each member with a stamp book and fines collected at meetings are spent in stamps and the member fined gets the stamp. Defense bonds have been purchased purchas-ed from club funds and will remain re-main the property of the club. The Lions club has purchased bonds from club treasurv. Thev have also done a fine work in supplying over eighty pairs uf glasses for under-privileged children. child-ren. The Chamber of Commerce provides a lottery in which all members present donate a quarter. quart-er. This "pot" is spent for Defense De-fense Stamps and the holder of a lucky number, which is drawn from a sealed box, gets the entire en-tire amount. Other funds have have also been spent for oonds that are the property of the club. Mrs. J. C. Barnes reported foi the Profesional Women, Lincoln T. Hansen for the Lions, Carl Brown for the Rotary club and Wendell Ashton for the Chambei of Commerce. Hiram C. Young took charge of the meeting. Pointing out that it is possible for the United Nations to suffer dire loses, if not the war, if the masses of the people fail to respond re-spond with greater energy and more time in work as well as every possible dollar they can spare, Dr. E. E. Monson, secretary sec-retary of state, addressed members mem-bers of the combined clubs of Sugar House, namely Business and Professional Women, Lions and Rotary clubs, and Chamber of Commence, Wednesday noon at a special luncheon meeting held at Jeanne's Tea Room. Dr. Monson cited instances where war work has been delayed delay-ed because of lack of cooperation and time and these delays cost lives and money, Dr. Monson said. The speaker complimented the clubs of Sugar House for their efforts in buying Defense Bonds and for the work they are doing in Red Cross, First Aid classes |
