Show GOVERNOR MAW ISSUES STATEMENT As a pre-pr5mary campaign nears its close, Governor Herbert 'B. Maw, Democratic candidate for re-nomination and re-election, to day issued a statement of app-ec-1 iation to his many supporters . throughout the state for there assistance as-sistance in reviewing to the people i of Utah the accomplishments ofi his adminstraition. ; "It is deeply gratifying to me," Governor said, "that so many people peo-ple of Utah have so highly re- garded the work we have done in the state government during, the last three and one-half years ! that they have voluntarily urged' my re-r.omination and re-election so that we can complete the program pro-gram which we feel has progressed progress-ed so satisfactorily thus far. Governor Maw expressed himself him-self as particularly pleased that his campaign organization has worked for his renomination in the primary July 11 and his reelection re-election November 7 in the general gener-al election bv adhering strictly to the principle of urging favorable favora-ble action by the voters on the basis of the governor's accomplish ments and, in no way, by suggesting sug-gesting possible shortcomings of others seeking election to the same office. Governor Maw, himself, him-self, said he respected the other candidates in the field. Arthur McFarlane, Governor Maw's campaign manager, joined with the chief evecutive in' commenting com-menting upon the pre-primary 'campaign. - "Governor Maw's campaign com mittee," Mr. McFarlane, a, highly successful Salt Lake City business busi-ness man, declared, "knew that the governor's services to the state have been so splendid that, when fully informed of his accomplishments, ac-complishments, the voters of Utah j would eagerly return him to office of-fice of governor to complete his fine work. "Therefore, we have tried only to tell the true story of his accomplishments ac-complishments the fact that he is one hundred per ent behind the Nation's war effort; that he is one hundred per cent behind every activity of benefit to Utah, that he has made remarkable progress pro-gress in fulfilling the pledges he i made to the voters four vears ago ithat he has lifted the state out of debt, that he has given full support sup-port to all construction phases of cur social, political and economic econ-omic life, that he has sobstan-tially sobstan-tially reduced taxes, that, with a i keen, knowledge and understanding understand-ing of the problems of the future he already has developed a strong post war program for- the state, a program which has won national nation-al recognition." We have not sought to obtain re-nomination and re-election of Governor Maw by deriding other candidates for the office, but instead in-stead we ' have urged favorable action, by the voters On his candidacy can-didacy because he does have the outstanding record of accomplishment, accomplish-ment, one of which he and the state can justly be proud, Mr. McFarlane concluded. |
