Show 5 -. 3 Public Health Local health officers from all sections of the State reported a total of 348 cases of communicable diseases to the Utah State Board of Health for the week ending February 21. This is 183 cases fewer than were reported for the previous week and 249 cases fewer than were reported for the corresponding cor-responding period one year ago. One case of para-typhoid fever was reported from Salt Lake City. According to the attending physician, physi-cian, the "patient, who is a student, apparently contracted the infection in the bacteriology laboratory at school. One case of diphtheria was reported re-ported from Salt Lake City and one case from Provo. A case of infantile paralysis was reported from Salt Lake City. The patient, who is 8 years of age, suffered suf-fered an acute attack of the disease dis-ease in the latter part of November, Novem-ber, 1940, but due to the fact that the parents thought their son was suffering from influenza no physician physi-cian was called at that time. The diagnosis was made recently on the basis of a paralysis of the muscles of one leg. Circumstances surrounding this case emphasize further the necessity of calling in the family doctor in all cases of acute illness. One case of meningococcus meningitis men-ingitis was reported from Provo. The patient is a woman 46 years age. Other diseases reported were as follows: chicknpox 123, influenza 43, measles 8, German measles 17, mumps 34, pneumonia 7, scarlet scar-let fever 3. tuberculosis 1, whooping whoop-ing cough 70, gonorrhea 10, syph-; syph-; ilis 25, and septic sore throat 1. ft |
