Show Regional Executive ' i : X i' OSCAR A. KIRKHAM By George Brooks. I first became affiliated with scouting when I was appointed Commissioner of scouting in the L. D. S. Church. This office covered cov-ered the entire Church. I was a member of the original committee commit-tee that worked on the plan for the acceptance of scouting for the Church. I have had the distinction of meeting leading scouts and scatters scatt-ers not only in the United States but in leading scout gatherings and international jamborees and the pleasure of being honorary member of the Boy scouts of France and Greece. In my office hangs a large plaque pla-que which was presented to me by the late Lord Baden-Pcvell, Chief Scout of the World. At the present, I am the Deputy Regional Executive of Region Twelve of the Boy Scouts of America, which includes the. stat es of Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Cal ifornia and the Hawaiian Islands. This area includes forty-eight councils and a total membership of over 135,000 scouts and scout-ers. I believe that scouting builds men through a practical program of citizenship training and character char-acter building. It really works. Scouting can easily prove its case. Hundred of thousands of young men who have been scouts are O today citizens, honorable and efficient. |
