This new firm is located at 2855 Highland Drive. Many celebrities from city and state will be present for the opening including Governor George D. Clyde; Mayor Adiel F. Stewart; and Joseph Chandler, president of the Susar House Chamber of Com-merce. There will be perfume sou-venir gifts given to the first 500 ladies. The opening will be filmed for TV and used on future pro-grams. There will be radio inter-views and plenty of music. Prizes worth $1200.00 in merchandise will be given away. Standard is giving up their downtown location and will operate exclusively from the Highland Drive Store. There will be approx-imately 35 to 40 more employes in the.new store. Their new building was built at a cost of $250,000 and is a new concept in furniture stores, be-cause it is all built on one floor. There are no partitions to ob-struct the view. It is of soft western rambler architecture and style. There are 30,000 square feet of floor space which is a SCPjo increase over their old lo-cation. Officers of the firm are James M. Armstrong, president; James M. Armstrong, Jr., general man-ager; Frank Armstrong, vice pres-ident; Mary Elizabeth Armstrong,' secretary-treasure- r. The architect was Lyle J. Rohde and the general contractor was Ghytraus Bros. Co. Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. except Friday and Satu-rday-- 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.' New York, N. Y. --Kenn G.. Morris, a native of Salt Lake City, is on a nine-mon- th tour of American Seconday Schools with General Electric' s "Adventures in Science" stage show. Known formerly as the'House of Magic", this show toured Utah and the City in 1957. It has been on tour for 28 years. Mr. Morris received his educ-ation here, graduating from South High School. He attended the U of U, receiving his B. S." in jour-nalism in 1957. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morris of 1367 Ramona Avenue. |
