Pugsley, Hayes, Rampton and Watkiss, 721 Continental Bank Building, Salt Lake City, Utah L What An Age! MERLE RICHE The conquest of outer space is on. And this, even before the con-quest of the world has been achieved. Men are hard at work devising memoa and means to occupy the moon, planets and they dream of ex-tending their con-quest to outer space -- - even be-yond the solar system. impossible. So perhaps it would be better to take that one eye off the moon so that we could keep them both on this Soviet atheist who is surveying this weakened country to see for him-self how soon it can be taken by surprise. Krushchev may try to wash his hands in innocency while here but we must remember that hands that have been washed in Kremlin basins have been washed in blood. Are we next? Is this the beginning of the Soviet prophecy issued in 1931: "War to the hilt between communism and capitalism is in-evitable. Today, of course, we are not strong enough to attack. Our time will come in 20 or 30 years. To win, we shall need the element of surprise. The bourgeoisie will have to be put to sleep. So we shall begin by launching the most spectacular peace movement on record. There will be electrify-ing overtures and unheard-o- f con-cessions. The. capitalist countries, stupid and decadent, will rejoice to cooperate in their own des-truction. They will leap at another chance to be friends. As soon as their guard is down, we shall smash them with our clenched fist." We are about to witness another1 typical exhibition of the deceptive upside-downne- ss of international politics. It was to be hoped that we could keep our feet on the ground. But we've already got one foot off with the invitation to Krushchev. wnat an age I Forty-on- e years to span the gulf between the moujik and the moon; forty-on- e years from the cossack support of the crown to the colonization of the Cosmos! We can with greater ease slip to the edge of eternity than to slip past the guards at the for-bidden spots on the earth. And. through it all we have had their constant warning that they are fundamentally hostile to everything that is not dominated by Moscow. In 1918 they provided us with ten days that shook the world. In 1959, the beginning of another period of world history, they are going to provide us with another 10 days that will shake the world. However, let us not be deceived. It will bode no more good for us than did the last forty years. At the conclusion of the last four ' decades of Communist rule Krushchev gave his famous mara-thq- n speech. Upon what did he piace the emphasis for Soviet success ? He measured it in terms of iron and steel and not in the political liberty or advance-ment of his people. He denounced everything and everybody critical of Communism. It will be quite a trick, I know, to keep one eye on the moon and one eye on Mr. Krushchev --almost Paste Pot Palaver Getting to be so durned much on this editorial page that there isn't any place left for us last to arrive columnist. Last week the Boss Man didn't even like what I tried to write enough to put it in the paper. I guess it doesn't make too much difference though cause I notice that no one pays any attention to what I say anyway. One week I raved around about the no painted lines to help traffic at 9th South and State and stop people trying to put three cars where only two will fit. Well you know just how much action I got there. They still haven't painted no lines there yet I guess they just want to decide things for themselves and not act like some paste pot was telling them what to do. Then I said something about the confusion at the traffic light on the right turn from 21st. S. on to Highland Drive. Well I am still confused everytime I drive up that way with the Boss Man but he says never mind. As long as we just set still and let people honk at us the worst thing that can happen to us is to get arrested for blocking the traffic.
