Show I PAGE SIX SUGAR HOUSE .UTAH .THURSDAY JUNE 4 1959 INDEPENDENT S. H. Service Clubs KIWANIS CLUB Kegular meeting of the Sugar House Kiwanis Club was held on Tuesday, June 2, at Harmon's Cafe. Richard Keddington, pro-gram chairman, arranged for Miss Elon Mangelson of Sanpete County to attend the luncheon as an honored guest. Miss Mangelson is the "Dairy Princess" of Utah and will compete in Phoenix, Ariz, in November finals for the National Dariy Princess. As the month of June is National Dairy Month, Merrill N. Warnick of Pleasant Grove was the speaker for the meeting. Mr. Warnick has received national awards and public honors in the dairy field. LIONS CLUB Regular meeting of the Sugar House Lions Club was held at Wright's Restaurant at 7:00 p.m. on June 1st. Mountain States Tele-phone and Telegraph Co. furnished a safe driving film and musical numbers by Tessie Jones and La-Ver- ne Jeffs were enjoyed. June 22nd, Lions and their Ladies will hold Installation Par-ties at the Ambassador Club at 7:30 p.m. Cedar City will be host to the State Convention on June 11, 12, and 13. BUSINESS and PROFESSIONAL WOMEN Sugar House Business and Pro-fessional Women will hold their monthly meeting on June 10th at the Hot Shoppes at 7:00 p.m. In-stallation of new officers for 1959-6- 0 and discussion and voting on new , amended by laws will occupy the business meeting. Club officers in charge are f Louisa Topham, president; Mary Louise Gilmer, vice president; Ruth Winder, recording secretary; Melba Redd, treasurer; and Emma Miller, corresponding secretary. BPW report a very successful convention at Orem in May and an invigorating experience at the State convention in Minott, N.D. by Ada Burt as a national guest. is expected to bring rodeo and Roy Rogers fans from all parts of the Intermountain area. Appearing with Roy at the rodeo, which is scheduled for July 18, 20-2- 5, will be his talented wife. Dale Evans, and four of their children. Included in the show will be Trigger, one of the world's most famous horses, along with Trigger, Jr., Pat Brady, Roy's comedy sidekick in his syndicated TV show, the Sons of the Pioneers singing group and the Liberty Horses. Days of '47 Rodeo With Roy Rogers - More than twice as many people will be able to see this year's Days of '47 Rodeo, which stars :op western personality, Roy Rogers, than have ever been ac-commodated before, according to Lee E. Nielsen, rodeo chairman. "Through additional seat-ing and an extra performance we expect to increase our attendance to a record-breaki- ng 77,000 persons", Mr. Nielsen stated. Ar-rangements have been completed to lease 5,000 extra seats from a Sacrcmento firm, he said, in-creasing the seating capacity at the State Fairgrounds to 11,000 for each performance. In addition, a Saturday night finale on July 25th this year will bring the number of shows to seven instead of t he usual six. "Roy has broken attendance re-cords wherever he has appeared", Mr. Nielsen pointed out. "It is not uncommon for him to double or even triple the attendance drawn by other Western stars. We want to be sure as many people as possible are permitted to see him on his visit to Utah," The event Utah Heart Assn. Elects Officers Dr. Merrill C. Daines of Logan was elected to presidency of the Utah Heart Association at their annual dinner meeting held Thurs-day, May 28th in the Student Union Building at the U. of U. Presiden-t- elect is Dr. George H. Curtis of Salt Lake City. Chairman of the Board of Directors will be Mrs. John Lewis of Ogden. The board also approved a budget of $91, 120 for the new fiscal year. The annual heart fund campaign grossed $91,400, a gain of 8 per cent over last year's total. A new feature was added to the annual meeting this year: the recognition of individuals who have given outstanding service to the work of the Heart Assn. Highlighting the dinner meet-ing was a talk presented by Dr. Louis S.Goodman,Dept. of Pharm-acology, U. of U. School of Me-dicine, on his experiences as a member of a six member team that visited Russia last year to study research in Russia. Outgoing president Dr. K.A. Crockett presided at the meeting and commented on the success of the past year's activities. He an-nounced the Heart Association's move to new quarters located at 250 E. First South. Opens Used Car Lot Richard L. Warner and Robert H. Bird, co -- managers of Bennett Ford, 47 West Sixth South, announced today the expansion of their used car and truck operation to downtown Sugar House with the official opening June 5th and 6th with an additional location at 1020 East Twenty-fir- st South. Vernie C. Swenson, for the past ten years a sales representative of Bennett Ford, has been appointed manager of the new Sugar House branch, it was announced by Selmer G. Lutey, used car sales manager of the firm. Mr. Swenson has named James Anderson and Milo Madsen as the salesmen to assist him in the new Bennett Ford Sugar House branch. Both Mr. Anderson and Mr. Madsen have worked in the automobile business for a number of years and both are residents of the southeast section of the city. The expansion by Bennett Ford to the Sugar House location re-presents this downtown firm's first branch in suburban areas. The Bennett Motor Company started its operation as a Ford dealer in downtown Salt Lake City twenty years ago. The firm also operates a large used car and truck business at Sixth South and Main and the Bennett Leasing Company, a car and truck leasing business, at 25 West Sixth South. "Our Sugar House Used Car Center will feature late model cars and trucks and will offer a wide selection of all makes", Mr. Swenson said.
