Show Coast Guard The South East Independent has been presenting ways for our youths to fulfill their military obligations from the most recent releases by the various branches of the services. The Army and the Air Force have been presented in preceding issues. This covers the Coast Guard with the Navy and the Marine Corps to follow. Regular enlistment for 4 years is open to young men 17 to 26 years of age. Reserve enlistment requires 6 months of active duty for training and 7 12 years in the reserve. ' Men 17 to 18 12 years of age are obligated for 7 12 years in the ready reserve. Those 18 12 to 21 spend 5 12 years in the ready reserve and 2 years in the standby reserve. Officer candidate school trains college graduates to be reserve officers. College seniors can sign up for a 17 -week course 4 months before graduation. Age requirement require-ment is 21 to 26. Upon receipt of commissions in the reserve, OCS-trained officers must serve 3 years on active duty. Flight training in the Coast Guard is open only to commissioned com-missioned officers. Coast Guard Academy admits young men 17 to 22 years of age who are high school graduates or seniors and who can meet stringent mental and physical requirements. Physical examinations and competitive mental achievement achieve-ment tests are given in over 100 U.S. cities early in February to otherwise qualified applicants. Academy graduates must serve at least 4 years on active duty. |
