Show Mrs. Newman lias! B asff Mrs. Ed Newman was elected president of the Salt Lake City League of Women Voters at the organization's recent annual meeting meet-ing at the Universityof Utah Union. Mrs. Thomas C. Brandt was named first vice president and Mrs. J. W. Lewis was elected secretary. Other officers elected included Mrs. James W. Ure, Mrs. Richard Henson and Mrs. 'Jerry King, two-year directorsandMrs. Douglas Brown and Waldo L. Stewart, one-year directors. Mrs. Lawrence S. Olsen was named chairman of the nominations committee. Committee members are Mrs. Richard O. Martin and Mrs. Bryce Roe. Study project adopted for the year was a study of capital improvement im-provement programs, in the Salt Lake area. The League also voted to continue support of a water purification and sewage program for the city; adequate financing for an improved school program; metropolitan government; effective ef-fective city planning and urban renewal with emphasis on conservation con-servation and rehabilitation. Speaker at the March 26th meeting was the late George M. Gadsby, chairman of the board, Utah Power and Light Co. Mr. . Gadsby cited the growth of interest in-terest in government among women and commended the League for its interest in community affairs. |
