June 9th. to Courtney H. and Ruth M. Brewer. Formerly known as the News Bulletin, The South East Inde-pendent, was owned and operat-ed by Clair, and Emma King. They purchased it in January 1955, from Tom and Bob Evans who owned and operated it in American Fork. The Evans bought it from D. James Can non. The South East Independent has been in continuous pub-lication for 39 years. After the Kings purchased it they moved all equipment to 1123 East 21st South in Sugarhouse. In November 1957 they moved to the present loca-tion, 2020 South Main. The circulation of the South East Independent takes iri all of the South East portion of Salt Lake City and County. In 1955 Mr. Evans purchased the circulation of Out Holladay Way, a publication owned and operated by " Clawson Silver. At the present time another circulation drive is under way, new . members being added to the ever increasing staff and more pages will be added with-in the next two weeks. "We'll have news and pictures from every section," Mr. Brewer said, "and we'll add, new cor-responda- nts as fast as we need them." . COURTNEY II. BREWER C. S. Reading Room Set Up To make Christian Science more readily accepted and bet-ter known, there are 3,000 Christian Science rooms in the Nationr.eaNdeairnegst to us are two in Salt Lake City, another in Ogden and the fourth in Provo. A reading- - room was estab-lished in Salt Lake City in 1897. This reading room is presently located at 371 South Main and is operated jointly by First and Second Churches of Christ, Scientist. The East Mill Creek Society established a new reading room in Sugar House about three years ago at 1129 E. 21st So., in accordance with a by-la- w adopted by the Mother Church in Boston on December 15, 1S99, This by-la-w provided that each branch of the Christian Science denomination should have a reading room. Purposes of reading rooms are six-fol- d: 1. To keep before the public, which has a standing invita-tion to visit the reading rooms, attractive, informative displays of Christian Science literature. 2. To serve as ' central bureaus for accurate, author-itative information about Christian Science and its local churches. 3. To.- - provide a well-appointe- d, well-arrang- ed place conducive to quiet study of Christian Science. 4. To make available a free lending library of books by and about Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science. 5. To stock all authorized Christian Science literature for sale to interested persons. 6. To maintain a place where subscribers to Christian Science periodicals may be en-tered or renewed. Gilda Paxman .. of American Holladay Choir Presents Requiem The Holliday Community Church' Choir will present the Requiem by Faure under the direction of Paul Christensen. It will be presented Friday evening, June 20, at the Holladay Community Sanc-tuary. The Choir will be accom-panied by a twenty -- piece orchestra composed of musi-cians from the state symphony orchestra and other local musicians. Guest organist will be Glen Pratt. Voices from the Highland High A'Cappella Choir will aid in the musical production. The Requiem is sung entirely in Latin. It is a famed musical work and was performed last summer by the . group of singers directed by Roger Wagner. The public is invited and welcome. There will be no admission charge.
