A. Sorensen saw a carload of Philco merchandise shipped home following the convention in Philadelphia. Mr. II. A. Sorensen, president of the National Society of Sons of Utah Pioneers, leaves the Old Cabinet Shop in Williamsburg. Here, he purchased miniature furniture for the SUP Pioneer Village. Also acquired, while on the tour, were a cannon, drugstore Indian and mugs from an old barber shop with the names of the former, early day customers beautifully scrolled and intact. And as always vacations end the Sorensens and the Backmans board a plane homeward. They traveled together as far as Detroit, and the Sorensens continued on to Sugar House by plane. Sorensens and Backmans Return From Trip in East; Visit South Vacation time and Mr. and Mrs. Horace A. Sorensen have just returned from the most in-teresting one of all! Historical sights, beautiful scenery, interesti-ng and fascinating people and a convention that drew 1500 dis-tributors of the Philco industry, all wrapped into one full and ex-citi- ng week. The Sorensens, who flew to Philadelphia, were met by Mr. and Mrs. Milton Backman, (Mr. Backman is a vice president of the National Society of Sons of Utah Pioneers and director of the guide service at the Pioneer Village.) The Backmans had driven east to visit and purchase a new car. The foursome drove south where they attended the James-town festival, celebrating 350th, anniversary of our country-th- e landing of Captain John Smith in Jamestown in 1607. Old relics have been gathered and James-town has been restored to the original pioneer state including the three small ships Susan-Constanc- e; Godspeed and Recovery on the James River. Also visited was Fredricksburg where George Washington spent his boyhood days. Here they visited his mother's home and Kenmore Plantation, the home of his sister, Betty. Among other historical cities were home of Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe and famed Yorkstown and the historical battlefield. Mr. Sorensen reported 27 mil-lion dollars was spent to restore Jamestown. While touring the early American historical cities he gathered many marvelous ideas for the pioneer village.
