Split the squabs in half. Rub with a little lemon juice, salt and pepper. Dot with butter. Broil until tender, about 15 minutes on each side. From an unsliced loaf of enriched yeast-raised , bread, cut four slices each 3 inches thick. Scoop out a little of the center of the bread. Fry until golden in deep hot fat. Serve the squab in these hot bread trenchers. |
