Show Chukar Hunt Opens Nov. 8 Young chukar partridge numbering num-bering 8,700 birds have been released into forty-three planting plan-ting sites over the states. They were raised this spring and early summer from brood birds held at two department of fish and game bird farms in Price and Springville. The young chukars were mainly stocked as supplemental plants at sites where chukars had already been planted, although altho-ugh eight new areas were stocked sto-cked for the first time. The department said this brings the total of 75,461 chukars planted in 98 sites over the state since the program to establish this exotic upland game bird in Utah was first begun seven years ago. Late field reports indicate growing populations of birds in many sections of the state and forcast liberal hunting regulations regulat-ions for the chukar season this fall. Opening- date of the chukar hunt this year has already been set for Saturday November 8. ' Length of Season, bag limits and other regulatory measures are expected to be set soon by the Fish and Game Commission. |
