College will hold its 1958 Commencement exercises at 10 a.m. Friday in Dane Hansen Memorial Stadium. The exercises will open with the Processional at 10 a.m. Invocation will be given by the Rev. Dr. Glenn R. Phillips, Bishop, Denver area, for the Methodist Church. A choral selection by the Westminster College Concert Choir under the direction of Professor James S. Vail, direc-tor, will follow. Introduction of graduates will be made by Dr. Frank E. Duddy, jr., Presi-dent of Westminster. Mr. John H. Stambaugh, Vice Chancellor of Vanderbilt Uni-versity, will address the class. Conferring of degrees, pre-sentation of honors and awards will follow and Benediction will be given by the Rev. Dr. M. C. Ballenger, Dean of the College, of Westminster. Baccalureate services were held last Sunday at the First Methodist Church. The Sermon was given by Dr. Phillips. The class of 1958 has 49 students. College Sets Fine Arts Hour The Fine Arts Division of Westminster College will pre-sent a Commencement Music Hour and Art Exhibit Thursday at 8:15 p.m. in the Student lounge on the campus for grad-uates, their families and the public. The art exhibit, consi-sting of some 50 works of stu-dents of Elaine S. Michelsen, assistant professor of art at the college has been on exhibit the past two weeks and will remain up until after Com-mencement on Friday. Vacation Time Gets Here For Salt Lake City Schools Summer vacation time finally arrived for students in the Salt Lake City area this week. While the students in the county finished school two weeks ago, city students closed their year this week. Graduation exercises were held at South, East and West high schools. Junior high J schools and elementary schools held specia 1 observances around the area. The city schools finish later than the county schools be-cause of the spring vacation that isn't given in the. county. Many of the youngsters will be looking for summer work although opportunities might be limited. However, for most of the students the end of school means a summer-lon- g period of play and relaxation. I East Mill Creek Plans Event East Mill Creek Plans for the 4th of July Children's Parade and Carnival are being arranged by the Lions Club here this week, according to publicity chairman, Harvey Penney. The parade and carnival are annual affairs here and in past I years have attracted ten to I twenty thousand people from I all over the valley, j The celebration will start at 1 sunrise with the salute to the I Flag at 5:45 am. From 6 a.m. j to 9 a.m., Aunt Jemina, in 1 person, will serve pan cakes. I i The pan cakes, coffee and sau-sage are served for 50 cents a serving. The children's parade will start at East Mill Creek Chapel and proceed down Evergreen Ave. to East Mill Creek Park. Most of the floats will be made by the boys and girls taking part in the parade. It will start at 9 a.m. The carnival will follow the parade. Howell Lee Cannon is general chairman of the celebration, assisted by members of the East Mill Creek Lions Club. |
