Show hearing called by county officials draws countywide county wide representation levy VY of one mill set for Co lorada rier project by commissioners in response to a public notice printed in the newspapers newspaper s of the county authorized by the county coan commissioners about sixty citizens representing better than five times this number of taxpayers taxpayer s from all parts of the county were present at the hearing held in duchesne friday chairman of the county commission lyle L young called the m meeting to order and explained th that at the purpose of the meeting was to get the reaction of the taxpayers in regards to the 1 arill levy for the colorado color colo ado river great basin project and the 2 mil levy for the purpose of erecting a county court house at duchesne question starts debate when the ou question estion was asked 0 the commission if the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the levy or the budget revise the meeting turned into somewhat of a cross word puzzle with no one ra really ally knowing just what it was all about however it finally d drew w out heated arguments from representatives present both for and against the building ot a new court house at the present time urges building chairman young urging the necessity of building a new court house explained that the root roof of the present building leaked and several other portions of the structure were badly in need of repairs he quoted ben beveridge district engineer of as assuring the commissioners that if the county would raise in cash with salvage material from the old building the court house could be built legality enters the legality of the 3 mill levy including the river project and the court house was brought up and the meeting finally adjourned with the commissioners unanimous on eliminating the colorado river great basin project I 1 mill levy chairman young declared himself in favor ot of the 2 mill bevy for the court house providing it was found to be legal commissioners floyd casl and willard day did not commit themselves on being either for or against the 2 mili court house levy at the meeting during the meeting a letter was read lead by lionel jensen of neola written by bishop wm K dye which was indorsed endorsed indor sed by 25 taxpayers from that section asking the commission to not only curtail all increased expenditures but to lower the levy it if possible |
