Show J unior junior college movement looms again once again the chief subject of conversation in this section is junior college once again a bill has been introduced trod into the state legislature calling for the establishment lish ment of a junior college at roosevelt to serve eastern U utah ta 1 l a and nd once again hopes for such a tar far reaching project j t are r e running high at the instance of state senator G V Bil billings tings a committee of roosevelt myton and duchesne people met with lith members of the state department of education in salt lake city last weekend week end to learn exactly their views on the junior college movement mo moi ement and the needs for better educational facilities in the uinta basin because the state education department must serve the entire state its members could not definitely express an opinion either for or against a junior college here however they said they would not oppose the move and the local committee felt they were sympathetic with sith the uinta basin and its need tar for greater educational opportunities for its young people you know and we know that an institution of higher education is needed here more than in any other section of the state because elsei elsewhere here institutions of higher learning are more easily accessible weber college of ogden and the Un university hersity of utah in salt lake city take care of the northern part of the state brigham young university at and snow college in ephraem provide for the central part of the state the new junior college at price takes care of carbon county and southern utah is well provided tor for by the branch agricultural college at cedar city and dixie di xie college in st george another bill calling tor for the establishment of a junior college in richfield has also been introduced into the legislature it has been said that if a junior college were built at richfield Richtie ld snow college would probably be forced to close down such is not the case to in the uinta basin here there would be no overlapping of educational opportunities tuni ties A junior college here would offer greater development elop ment to the largest percentage of young people who graduate annually from basin high schools and cannot attend other state colleges because ot of the great expense involved there I 1 is a chance of the legislatures passing this bill and every citizen in the basin should do his par part t to urge its approval for the establishment of a junior college in the basin will mean greater development and opportunity tor for our youth |
