Show basin pioneer woman troman tro man honored on birthday family of mary E harmston Har roston gather on sunday to pay respects to 2510 ther still energetic and vigorous mrs mary E harmston who celebrated her birthday sunday can look back over a long lifetime of work accomplishment and adventure born in green county pennsylvania january 21 1866 mary who is known to the community as granny moved west with the tide of development slowly sweeping to the pacific ocean during the last century when she was 19 years old she was married to ed F harmston in centerville Cent erville iowa and continued to move west the couple lived for several years in south dakota and first came to utah 47 years ago settling at whiterocks where mr harmston had been called as superintendent of the whiterocks White school after a short time the harm moved to vernal where they went into business and in 1908 when the reservation area was opened tp settlers they were among the first white people to est establish ablith themselves in roosevelt the business district of roosevelt now stands on the old harmston homestead and much of the towns main street property Is still owned by mrs airs harmston mr and mrs harmston and their six sons and two daughters played a prominent role in the development of the city of roosevelt they have established several successful business enterprises and have helped in many ways to build up the city family dinner to celebrate the birthday anniversary of their mother the five sons and their families living here gathered at the home of mr and mrs eugene harmston sunday for a family dinner present were mr and mrs harmston mr and mrs nick harmston mr and mrs ted harmstone mr and mrs craig harmston and mr and mrs eugene harmston other members of the family include albert F harmston of el paso texas mrs hazel davis of ocean side california and mrs mildred norline of valejo california tri there ere are arc also 21 grandchildren best wishes the standard pays tribute to the long and splendid life which has been mary E harmstone Harms tons and we all join in wishing her many mo more r e years of good health and happiness |
