Show SCHOOL BOARD VS DUCHESNE CITIZENS it was indeed shaine shameful ful the way three of duch duchesne esne cites citizens tried to embarrass em barass and chastise the members of the county school board at tuesdays session wherein a cheari hearing n Z on the revised budget was held however it is satisfying to know that these three men who were so ambitious were tactfully handled throughout the entire hearing it was evident that the were not so interested in way the board was handling financial affairs of the district and especially so where the board was not hurting their interests in other words I 1 they were there for the sole purpose of questioning the advisability of the proposed and already voted change chadee of the administration office from frondi their city to roosevelt we admit they were within their right so long lone as they stuck to the budget but when they continued to inflict politics and ab noxious statements into the hearing then and there they proved their past and future course of action which if properly lV aired would defeat any worthy cause JUDGE hollenbeck TRIES filibuster FILU BUSTER we respect judge hollenbeck for his legal ability but feel that he like one of the three horsemen somewhat overstepped over stepped his best judgment in trying to belittle and browbeat the county school board members into doing as he alone saw fit and As soon as chairman lamb declared the budget hearing open mr hollenbeck was on his feet and there he stayed the better part of the afternoon in one breath the audze would praise the board and in the very next he would severely chastise them only to come back apologetically lV and his statement there was only one point the judae jud oe made definitely clear during his lengthy di discourse scours e and that was the fact that he was keeping something r under hinder cover which he was going to hold over the school board as a whip in order to bring them into step and make them do ashe wished wi sied quoting the audee is in one of his pertinent declarations we do not want you board members to have to be humiliated again al rain in court as vou recently were such statements as the above which were made during the hearing by duchesne citizens left a very unhealthy condition POLITICS INFLICTED INTO HEARING john P madsen county democratic chairman speaking sim akin for jolin john P madsen drew united states senator ato r william H king and congressman abe murdock into the scene of action by declaring in no uncertain terms that these L gentlemen lent lemen after he the county democratic chairman had talked to th them em concerning proposed p school blaid office change had expressed themselves as being keenly interested and could see no reason for such action mr madsen said if the change is made it will only cause friction in politics 1 throughout the entire county which he was extremely interested in avoiding mr madsen explained to the board th that a t he had bad spent considerable time to cover the coun county inquiring from citizens how they felt and that he lad had contacted some of the better citizens of roosevelt who declared themselves as against the change chadee but mr madsen was very careful not to mention any names other than senator king and congressman murdock Murdoc kWe we feel that mr madsen should have talked a against the move from his own personal viewpoint instead of try trying inz to lo inveigle disinterested parties into the fight JUST ONE op OF THE THREE to make the three ring circus complete wm win case former county clerk FERA director and manager and now a government post office employee did not brighten matters when he endeavored to place the present school superintendent on the spot it was postmaster cases idea that the superintendent had bad been warned against taking any issue in the battle and tried to leave the impression imD tha tsuch was the case until he was vas interrupted interruptedly by chairman lamb who asked the direct question did mr law tell you such and such mr case then retracted his statement by stating that it was only his opinion at this turn of affairs mr case led off with the political part of the program but his argument was weak and did no harm to io either side of the story superintendent SETS THEM RIGHT duchesne county school superintendent reuben D law in a clear and concise manner explained to those present his reason for not ta taking king sides or entering into any discussions leaning directly or indirectly 03 on the question involved was that hat he felt it was the board problem and furthermore he was there to serve the district not factions or parts he disqualified the assertion made change charac that lie he had talked in favor of or against the th wo we say as we have said many times before let the school board decide we the taxpayers elected thern them to office L we placed our confidence in them at that time and aith ith all that has been brought to lil light ht up to date we frel fel that the majority of the citizens of duchesne county are still of the same opinion they ha have ve proven without a question of doubt that they have at all times had the betterment of school conditions at heart they have saved aved money and the quality of the schools fo found th in aej in this county are considered in the A class by state educators ft |
