Show COUPON COOKBOOK CORNER Few things make a meal more special than the taste and aroma of home baked bread. This recipe is good for a snack or as a part of a meal. Fig Newtons are a lot of people's favorite cookies. If you are one of those people, or if you have never tried them, sample this easy recipe from Nabisco and you will become a fan. Marion Joyce USE COUPON BELOW FIG NUT BREAD y cup milk, scalded 1A cup light brown sugar, firmly 20 FIG NEWTONS Cookies, broken packed 1 Vi cups sifted all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon grated orange rind 'A teaspoon salt 2 eggs V4 teaspoon baking soda 1 cup PLANTERS Walnuts, coarsely V cup BLUE BONNET Margarine chopped Pour milk over FIG NEWTONS Cookies; let cool. Sift together next three ingredients. Cream BLUE BONNET Margarine, sugar and orange rind. Add eggs, one at a time. Stir in sifted dry ingredients, nuts and softened FIG NEWTONS Cookies. Pour into greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan. Let stand 10 minutes. Bake in a preheated moderate oven (350F) 50 to 55 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool. Store wrapped in aluminum foil overnight. Slice thinly. Makes one (9-inch) loaf. |
