Show ava rr progress ogress of duchesne county high SC school h 00 I 1 by prin ELROY BOBERG conditions at the county high this season indicate a steady growth over last year in many ways our total enrollment ter for the current year is two hundred thirty one with an actual actual belonging now of 0 two hundred fiat fifteen een this means that only sixteen students have discontinued since the beginning 0 of school this year and many of these are attending school in other districts this enrollment is made up largely of students from this county however one truck load arrives daily ft duchesne and other towns in county comparing these figures to the same figures tor for last year we find that the total enrollment then was about two hundred fifteen while the actual number belonging was never over one hundred ninety five we finished the year with one hundred eighty six students many students came in last year and registered during the first week and were never seen at the school alter after most of these students who dropped out after registering had never really decided to attend tor for themselves another important improvement in the school is in evidence in the conduct and attitude of 0 tug the students the first week of work this season showed a marked change in the attitude ot of some of 0 the worst students of last season th these ese students have come back this year with something to do some actual plans tor for the year the have actually found themselves POT per this class of students school work is a pleasure and success is sure it if only the same good attitude is followed such business businesslike like attitude too is largely responsible tor for the attitude of 0 others who are spending their first year of 0 high school work at roosevelt all classes have long been organized and are working efficiently last year there was good cooperation in classes and student body but this his season the classes are keenly interested in the efficiency of their class organizations they are later inter es ted in making any class undertaking not only a success but a marked success nothing proves this better than a review of the class programs given to date in assembly by the different classes of tile the school most recent of which was a unique entertainment by the home economics and agricultural clubs parents would do well to witness some of these programs this excellent class and student cooperation la Is building buil dini up in the school a real consciousness which we have long needed it seems impossible that less than two hundred would not all know each other at the end of eight months of school work yet this was actually the case in some instances last year one of the advantages of a small school is this personal contact annd it la Is gratifying to see students working so hard to establish worth while traditions and practices la il the school and doing things which hind bind them all closer together into one large larga school family why we make this a real high school why should students go out to other counties of the state tor for th their air high school work with an adequate building and grounds a good corps of instructors and anda a great many young people with much to learn why not make a combination ot of the three conditions and have as good a high school as any ct cf c the same size in the state from the inside we are doing this but surely both students and teachers we are making every department part ment of the school as self supporting as is possible to lighten tile the load on the ever taxed county teachers are wor working king hightland night and land day for tile the one good cause A better high school students are waiting in the cold morning tor for trucks or providing their own transportation each day tor for as much as ten miles just to bal be a live working part ot of this same good cause we are steadily growing into a real high school from the outside parents have long known there was a high school at Roc rodsevelt sevelt yet many have only recently become keenly conscious ot of the ability ot of this school to serve them and their children it Is right that they should use the service of the county high school ot of their high school send your children out to college surely but while you pay taxes to support schools use them as long as you may conditions in the state are do de manding that each county take care of its ita own high school schaal problems colleges are elmina eliminating ting preparatory work from their courses and the more central counties are beginning to charge prohibitive tuition of students from outside these conditions are not hardship on us they only force us to use our own schools and where needed to make our own schools better and now that we are beginning to see the real possibilities of a county high school Is it not wise to continue our good support of the school only perhaps more intensely in the future than in the past will you not visit the schools counsel with the teachers and enlarge their opportunity port unity to serve you through the schools and your children |
