Show coming home by JOHN E DOLSEN the years year are to long now and dreary and lonely since the children have gone into homes of their own the house seems deserted for john joha and I 1 only are left in it now and wo we live all alone it often seems strange tl range even yet to be sitting with no one but john through the evenings long and I 1 listen at times for the quick eager flitting of footsteps overhead oe or for snatches of song while the children were little our work was much harder often an almost impossible task to pay all the bills and keep food in the larder to watch them and answer what eer they might ask still I 1 oftentimes think though ive grown so much older and more nearly disabled than ever before that all of the cares I 1 would willingly shoulder ch if they were all with us and children once more and every year as it draws toward thanksgiving we make them all promise to visit us here and I 1 sometimes tell john there therod d be more joy in living for me if thanksgiving came four times a year ill begin preparations next week to receive them and though all grown to be women and men and have homes of their own too ill almost believe them to be just my own little children again aam I 1 am going to have the best dinner we ever yet had in the family ing day and I 1 know it is i well too for maybe we never will all get together again in this way john says I 1 am foolish and that atwould be better to have just a plain dinner without will frills or pies but I 1 tell you last night when he read ethels letter I 1 noticed that he too had bad tears in in his eyes copyright 1321 1921 western newspaper unan |
