lathis sand has probably surface and prevented the oil 11 from any great distance 1 ithe th e ca layon canyon and I 1 think it likely kely that oil in paying pan lean be obtained from frOmI d ir into this sand from the rot of the ithe structure which tri drilling to a depth of teet feet or less in most art frt the linding finding of oil in the toned honed band can hardly be k ib also true that the atlon ion which has caused a ion of oil in this sand has jibed ed a similar concentta er r sandstones in the hotis jer lower green river and the he wasatch formations arthe he next two formations be encountered by drill W bottom of hill creek any of the numerous nu bide li canyons which oralph an at this time as to ring for formations martous may be aby a by drilli drilling ug from the ilfe the Is an outcrop out arop 0 of aai ba 11 1 south bouth and east ot of lome me in main canyon in alss effs iffs which is 27 7 icet feet ye eshad had no opportunity to I personally but am ine bellet belief that this sand also in the wasatch or i river formations and it if dalbo also very likely under reek structure ap pp P ot of oil saturated sand wasatch formation tor matlon at lot f a thi thickness cliness so BO great pa a almost too much to pit rt continues at the same the same bame degree of 0 saturation under the hill creel creek dome doine yet it does not seem probable that these sands would be absent entirely under this structure and it if the whole 1600 feet noted at sun Is pre present aut under this structure and Is similarly saturated a production of oil equal to the best in the country might be expected in the absence of actual tests it Is of course very much of a guess to say whether the oil content of sands in this structure underlying hill creek canyon would be under sufficient gas or hydrostatic pressure to cause flowing or gusher wells however two elements have been noted which might cause flowing wells the first Is that the oil sands of the lower lower green river and wasatch formations at the arado tunnel are overlaid with oil shale which would provide an ideal sealing factor to hold down the oil in the sands under either gas or water pressure the second Is that ithe outcrops of these green river and wasatch sandstones to the east west and south of this structure are higher than the top of the structure thus affording entrance tor for secondary waters into the sands which descending into the trough around the ithe structure might put the oil content of the sands on the dome under considerable hydrostatic pressure an outcrop of these sands to t the he north of the structure does not occur to my knowledge south of the axis of the great syncline which comprises the uintah basin though toward the north side of the basin the green river at least has changed almost entirely to clay sand and gravel in the outcrops af 6 the main uplifts of 0 the uintah basin to be continued |
