Show A PROTEST mayor hanson and city council there Is an old saying that a stitch in time saves nine alter after carefully reading our ordinances tor for the city I 1 came to the conclusion 1 that a little counsel was in order although you may despise or ignore the same some of these ordinances it seems you have gone to considerable of an extreme considering a new country and a people struggling for an exl ex stance istance through drouth I 1 hard winters sickness hardships and high prices it if we were a large and wealthy city with paved streets and three four and five story buildings and the sidewalks crowded with people you might expect to have everything ery thing arranged arra aged accordingly but the idea that even shade trees must be cut down in this little littie burg before even other trees can be obtained in our country just because they are not lot the kind of tree that suits you and fences must be desy destroyed oyed and removed because a barbed wire dont suit you unless by consent ot of the mayor remember that about nine tenths of the grounds within the city limit aro are fenced with barbed wire and the mayor can not justly consent to one having a wire fence and refu refuse se another it must either be a law for all or not a law at all and there are other items in the same ordinance that are too extreme bof before ore our little city Is ripe and and ready for these technical for instance that a child can not play marbles on the sidewalk nor amuse himself in any way with a tricycle and other simple things of amusement on the sidewalk here in a little town where perhaps from 5 to 15 minutes pass before anyone comes along remember it is the people that build abild the sidewalks for themselves their children and the people in general also think of the expenses you are putting to the people by bypassing pass I 1 ng these ordinances possibly and all unnecessary for the present then what about the people in the lower half of the city being without water because the city enough money to lower the water mains which in some places is within two feet of the surface where it first freezes and stops slops the circulation of the water which then stagnates and causes it to freeze several blocks each year it is also understood that the salaries of the city marshal mart city and city attorney have been grealy raised unnecessarily and all with addition ot of heavy burdens ur upon the people and we have many people in our city mostly property owners that are corn compelled belled to either beg steal or starve or leave town as there Is not sufficient employment you had better have some of these ordinances modified it if you do not you will create ill feelings and cause dissatisfaction ol of the people ale and many will be disgusted sufficiently that they will it if pos possible sibie leave eave town and instead of building up our town its growth and progress will ile be held back remember the reign of the strong lards are generally short remember the words of the son of king solomon when the people asked tor for more line ance and freedom he replied it if my father made your burdens heavy I 1 will make them heavier etc but the people left him and he did not have many left to reign over over we want a good clean city and we can have it without going to such extremes A straightforward and fair manner will bring it with reasonable and consistent laws la ws according to our cites development and valuation as it grows step ty D y step again I 1 pray that you jou modify some of these ordinances in behalf of the people of our city respectfully C C LARSEN |
