Show A BRASS BANI BAND editor roosevelt standard in lour issue ot or nov 13 1913 you raise the question or of a 1 brass dand band for roosevelt ono one Js Is tie needed edea to serve the people on public occasions there are arc available now about toll ten or twelve instruments and drums could be purchased sod for a few dollars this aliis would start a band there are in this town thirty or more places of business including the professions the proprietors or oe which I 1 am sure would aid in thu the purchasing and upkeep of oe their town band but who will organize it let me suggest that a committee of live five citizens appointed by the town board or council or by tile the commercial club be fin powered to organize a town band this board manage and direct its business the buying of additional dit ional instruments music etc etc engaging its instructor and designating igna ting hs salary the duties of its instructor and its members I 1 believe there are a number of private citizens who would subscribe for the maintenance of such an organization since my name has been given plaue in the article referred to above I 1 am m prepared to meet any such committee herein suggested and make them art an otter offer to teach and tiff direct act their land band in its music work at a stipulation that will be fair and equitable not alone would such an organization be of uncounted benefit and service to its members but the pub lie io would have a valuable asset to its ts town and would receive and find pleasure tit in its music A band organized now may be ready next summer to render some music to the public an open air concert on tl saturday evening or a sunday afternoon by such an organization would lend end some zest and recreation to they hey who are weary of toll toil very respectfully JAMES HOOD roosevelt utah nov 15 1918 |
