| Show Plat forin we the democrat party of duchesne county utah in convention assembled at duchesne utah this day of september Septer Sept oler emter 1916 renew our allegiance to the fundamental principles of the jeffersonian Jeffers onlan damoc iracy i acy as promulgated in the national and state platforms of the democratic party and heartily endorse the progressive legislation of the democratic congress during the administration of president wilson I 1 we point with delight to the tact fact that the pledges pledged of the democratic party of tour four years ago have been redeemed and that the administration has kept this nation out ot of war in the greatest war catastrophe ot of history and has maintained the dignity of 0 the country and the respect of 0 the several warring nations and has held in check the petty warring factions in mexico with urbanity judgment and to the credit of the solid good sense of the whole country we denounce the republican re state atlon for its unwarranted esav a tor for its pandering to the aliquot ilai tc crests dr rests ests in spite ot of aud and against tho the ove sentiment ot of the people ot of this great state and pledge our representatives to the legislature to immediately pass a prohibition law in accordance with the declaration ot of the democratic state platform and pledge our officers it if elected to a strict enforcement of the prohibition laws we declare in favor of a readjustment of 0 our state legislative representation resen tation and shall ask for a state senator tor for each county that we may have a proper representation in the state senate we denounce the recent attempt of the republican county convention to make a political question concerning the waters of uintah basin streams and declare that that Is not a political question but is a question involving the rights of persons to acquire property in water appropriations tor for irrigation and Is governed by the law ot of necessity and as developed by actual experience through a course of years and as construed by the courts ot of all of the states and by the federal government and that no man can be deprived ot of ills his rights in the courts in the said case any more than he can be deprived of his rights in any other case had the republican state engineer appointed a water commissioner promptly most ot of the water shortage would have been averted we pledge our courty county ticket to a careful business administration of county affairs and tor for economy and tor for public roads and tor for school houses and other build buildings lugs that will help the public county at the most reasonable cost remembering the great burden taxes already borne by our citizens we pledge our nominee to the legislature if elected to use his beat efforts to obtain any change ry in the law that will enable coun ties such as ours to sustain a full nine mouths of grade school and a full totor coir years 0 of high school we pledge ourselves in favor of securing necessary legislation by congress and by our state legislature to provide for operative cooperative co action between the federal feder I 1 and state governments ill in building building necessary reservoirs and irrigation works to conserve the head waters cfall ot all of the rivers and streams within the state and now permitted to run to W asta in tho the winter W inter and spring seasons and to make such waters available for the irrigation of the vast tracts of farming lands now above canal 1 levels and which cannot be settled upon or be brought under cultivation I 1 until provision Is made tor for water to irrigate them |
