Show FARMERS INSTITUTE the farmers of this section held their institute one session wednesday evening and three thursday the attendance at every meeting was large and all seemed much interested interest ec in the various topics discussed the instructors were prof john T caine miss gertrude me mc cheyne and prof M L harris on wednesday evening miss mccheyne spoke on the topic ol of sanitation among other things she said that the house fly was the cause of more mord fever than anything else that we should be very particular and screen h 0 our ur outhouses out houses and not kive give the fly a chance to work on anything near near the house the ilk fly was a mans worst enemy and to do everything in our power to prevent them from getting into the house prof john T caine spoke on the subject of the live stock business saying that the prices were high and would continue so on account of the scarcity of f meat in 1907 there were head of cattle in the united aed states and in 1914 only thursday morning prof caine gave ave an interesting talk on dairying and dairy cows telling his audience of the good opportunities the farmers have of making money in the butter and cheese business in the basin and advised all farmers to get in the best grade of dairy cows for it was a paying proposition miss Me mccheyne Cheyne spoke on 11 human nutrition an held her audience spellbound spell bound from start to finish in the afternoon beef cattle was prof caines subject mr caine is undoubtedly one of the best posted men in the state of utah and he gave demonstrations on how to compare the good from the bad miss mccheyne had as her topic vegetables fruits meats and eggs and a talk on bread after her talk a home economics association was organized and the fo lowing officers elected mrs W A miles president mrs wallace vice president mrs fred motter secretary the association will meet monday october 26 the object of this association f is s to aid in the betterment of the home and schools thursday evening the subject of confirmation and soundness of horses and the F feeding of livestock live stock was thoroughly dis aused by prof caine which was probably his best lecture in the whole course miss McC heynes lecture was on the subject of clean bodies and clean minds one counterbalancing the other they go hand in hand through life prof M L harris also gave several interesting talks on various subjects which was great greatly ly appreciated by all present the institute was a success success alfir all were well pleased that they had taken a day off for the occasion |
