Projects of direct concern to I pie in the Uintah Basin are i Ration reservoir on the ,' strawberry river; the Upalco ' reservoir, on Sand Wash; and tre stanaker reservoir, near Vernal. All these are included j jn the initial phase of the Central Cen-tral Utah project, and can be-1' be-1' built as soon as the people af-it af-it lected are prepared to enter into in-to contracts for financing the venture. 111 As things stand now. even though the Uinta mountains pour two-thirds of Utah's water across the Basin, the benefits to the area are negligible, for the simple reason that the water wa-ter is uncontrolled and flows unchecked into the Colorado river. Reclamation engineers who have mapped the Central Utah pro-ect report that untold bette-!:'.; bette-!:'.; will accrue when water icvi-t. out of- the Uiotas is brought under control and fully utilized. Envisioned for the Uintah Basin Ba-sin under the Central Utah project pro-ject are six hydroelectric power plants and most of the money to finance the project itself will come through the sale of hydroelectric hydro-electric power. |
