Show gt LETTERS June 6, 1953 Roosevelt Standard Roosevelt, Utah Dear Editor Several of the members of the City Fire Department were glad to be able to respond to the call for help at the home of Mr. Birchell, last Friday afternoon. after-noon. We were glad to be able to pick up a bucket and carry water from the fast diminishing supply at the spring-. "We were even glad to be able to pick up a shovel and direct the irrigation irriga-tion water to help put out the smoldering manure in the corrals. cor-rals. -But the thing that bothered us was that most of these farmers farm-ers don't realize that our insurance in-surance underwrighters won't let us take the truck out of the city limits to fight fires. "With a lot less energy we cffuld accomplish accom-plish more good with a pump and water under pressure. If every farmer within a radius of ten miles of Roosevelt would donate to the Roosevelt City one hundred dollars each, there could be a fully equipped truck ready for such an emergency. "Within the period of a year there would be more property saved than the cost of the truck and equipment. Will you try to inform these property owners around Roosevelt that this would accomplish untold good, and then try to get them to help make this possible. If there were sucha truck available we could go to any community around if it was so arranged in the beginning. Respectfully, Harold Dillman |
