Show Community Arts Group Opens Series -With Presentation Of Noted Duo On Monday, October 18, the Community Lyceum Arts Association As-sociation will sponsor Marti and Nilsson in an outstanding program pro-gram at the Roosevelt stake tabernacle. tab-ernacle. A superb artist, Marti's" interpretation inter-pretation of Latin-American music mu-sic is unexcelled. Throughout his playing throbs the warm, vital lust for living which characterizes char-acterizes the new world. The sensuous, mysterious beauty of the tropics illumines his softer moods, making his concerts a memorable experience. A leading figure in inter-American affairs, and founder and director of the Yucatan Symphony Sym-phony orchestra, Marti is head of "Conciertos Marti," the only concert circuit in Mexico and Central America, which he founded for the laudable purpose pur-pose of bringing music to the smaller towns where music is seldom heard. The circuit now serves 25 cities. He is now employing this circuit cir-cuit as a "musical bridge" for the mutual interchange of young concert artists between Mexico and the U. S. "Music, like war, brings people together," says Marti; "not through suffering but by revealing our best qualities quali-ties and aspirations to ourselves and to our neighbors." Gunhild Nilsson, noted American Ameri-can pianist, completes the duo. The wife of Samuel Marti, she has traveled with her husband throughout the Americas on concert. Like her distinguished husband, she : recognizes the smaller towns as needing elevating elevat-ing qualities' of artistry. Miss Nilsson is the first American Ameri-can artist to have toured the smaller towns of Mexico and South America. The appearance of Marti and Nilsson in Roosevelt is a splendid splend-id opener for the new Community Com-munity Lyceum Arts Association. |
