Show Highway Mishaps Mar Spirit Of National Holiday Two traffic mishaps, one caused caus-ed by a slippery road and the second by a mechanical failure claimed the life of one motorist and hospitalized six others on February 22. An icy strip of road on Strawberry flats, catapulted the car of John W. Noorda, Salt Lake City, into a borrow pit, killing Mr. Noorda instantly and injuring Mr. and Mrs. Lyle All-red, All-red, their two children and IllLf Gardner of Neola. The Allred family and Illif Gardner were passengers in the Noorda car, the Allreds enroute to visit relatives rela-tives in Roosevelt and Mr. Gardner Gard-ner traveling to his home in Neola. The car, which landed in the borrow pit upside down, waa completely demolished, the impact im-pact breaking Mr. Noorda's neck. The other five passengers in the damage car suffered cuts and bruises and were brought to the Roosevelt hospital for treatment. With the exception of Mrs. All-red All-red and her three-year old son, Lewis, all were released after examination and medical attention. atten-tion. Mrs. Allred was detained at the hospital suffering from mild shock, while her son underwent immediate treatment for broken ribs, a punctured lung and severe shock. Both were able to leave the hospital on Sunday evening. . Mr. and Mrs., Leland Stevenson Steven-son were the victims in the second sec-ond accident of the day when the car in which they were driving overturned about three miles south of Mt. Emmons. In a pickup pick-up truck, which Mr. Stevenson -had purchased only a few days before, the Altamont couple were enroute to Roosevelt where Mrs. Stevenson planned to board the bus for Salt Lake. On a stretch of rough road the wheels suddenly sudden-ly locked and the pick-up tipped end over end once and rolled over sideways twice. A passing motorist, Mr. Laird McConkie, rendered assistance and drove Mrs. Stevenson back to the home of her parents in Mt. Emmons. Two hours later the effects of the accident became apparent and Mrs. Stevenson was rushed to the Roosevelt hospital, suffering from severe cuts about the head, coupled with injuries to her back and shoulders. Examination Exam-ination showed, however, that her body injuries were of a minor min-or nature. She was released from the hospital on Monday evening.
