Show Alterra, Duchesne Prime For District Cage Meet With the district cage championship cham-pionship still in the balance as the basketball season draws to a close, Alterra High and Duchesne Du-chesne High will meet on neutral grounds Friday night to decide which aggregation will represent the district in the forthcoming state meet at Salt Lake City Two decisive games between Alterra and Duchesne arc scheduled sched-uled for play at Vernal, March 1. The opening whistle at 7:00 p. m. will bring together the junior teams from the two schools in a preliminary encounter encoun-ter followed, at 8:00 p. m., by the feature play-off between the "first stringers" of Alterra and Duchesne. By 9:00 p. m. the final fin-al gun will have named the district dis-trict champions. The records of the opposing schools for the 1946 season indicate indi-cate that two evenly matched teams will take the floor on Friday Fri-day night; Alterra has recorded eight wins while suffering two set-backs with Duchesne equaling equal-ing that record by an eight to two score. If past performances are a criterion by which the Friday night games can be measured then some aggressive, smart cage play with close scores are in the offing. Starting line-ups for the Vernal Ver-nal engagements have not yet been announced and it is doubtful doubt-ful if any news regarding the "starters" will be forthcoming until shortly before the games. The winner of Friday's encounter en-counter will journey to Salt Lake on March 13 to play in the four day Utah state championship champion-ship tourney. |
