Show State Anglers Who Fished Uintah Basin Country Report Excellent Catches Most Streams In Fair Condition, Reservoirs and Springs Yield Good On Opening Day Those who were fortunate enough to be able to hit the streams and reservoirs in Duchesne Du-chesne and Uintah counties, Friday, Fri-day, June 15th, the opening day of 1945 fishing season, in lower waters of the state, were well repaid. according to reports coming com-ing into the Standard office. Johnnie Star From all indications the best fishing in Duchesne county was in Johnnie Star Flat reservoir. There were hundreds of fishermen fisher-men on the lake the opening day and everyone who was able to cast a line came home with their limit of 10-12-15 inch eastern brook. This beautiful lake was stocked by State Fish and Game department two years ago, and closed during last summer. It, without a doubt, can be one of the finest fishing spots in the entire Uintah Basin if properly handled and stocked each year. Several sizable catches were reported from Moon Lake and adjacent territory, as was the Lake Fork section. Bob Davis Reports Bob Davis, owner and manager man-ager of the U-Bar Ranch, located in Uintah Canyon on the banks of the famous "Smokey Spring" reports that both the -river and Smokey Springs yielded some splendid catches. Mr. Davis entertained en-tertained a party of enthusiastic sportsmen, who had been attending at-tending the A C coaching school at Logan, Utah. In the party were: Jeff Cravath, University of Southern California, coach and instructor at the A C coach- ing school;. Frank Potts. University Univer-sity of Colorado coach; Ike Armstrong, Arm-strong, University of Utah coach; Einer Nielsen, U of U trainer; McKinley Oswald, East High school. Salt Lake City and the following Salt Lake business men; Thornton Morris, Adrian Pembroke, B. P. Morris, D. W. Moyle, Jr., and Bus Weiler. These men were at the U-Bar Ranch for a four day visit and according to Mr. Davis, they had a very enjoyable time and got in plenty of good fishing with fine results. |
