Show Vernal Rodeo Draws 3000 For Opening VERNAL More than 3000 people attend the opening of the Vernal rodeo and race meet here Thursday.1 The rodeo queen, Betty Karren, and her assistants, Elaine Rich as "Miss Vernal," Nola Mae Weeks as "Miss Uintah" and Eva Rhinehart as "Miss Utah," all on beautiful horses, led the wild west parade I through the main street of Vernal at',1 p. m. Following them was Mayor Stringham and G. Howard Caldwell, Cald-well, general chairman, and the performers of the rodeo. The junior chamber of commerce com-merce members with their month-old beards, also were on horses. The Uintah high school band furnished the parade music. A colorful grand entry opened the performance on the rodeo grounds when all performers, led by eight American flags, and followed fol-lowed by a flag representing every state of the union, paraded before the .grandstand. The crowd was brought to its feet time and again at the performance, per-formance, once when a pale face Brahma bull threw his rider 10 feet in the air as he came out of the chute, and another time when a Brahma bull got Benny Bender, the clown, under his feet and pawed him. |
