Show Stock Lives As Coyotes Die Control of stock-killing coyotes in many areas is saving farmers and ranchers millions of dollars, Albert M. Day, director. Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of the Interior, reported today. As a result many species of game birds and animals are increasing steadily as reduction in numbers of coyotes are made. "In many parts of the West, from New Mexico to Montana, where losses formerly ran as high as 15 per cent, sheep are now being ranged without herders herd-ers and without losses from predators," pred-ators," stated Mr. Day. In several states antelope fawn survival is directly proportional to the extent and effectiveness of coyote control on antelope ranges. Survivals of 94 per cent were counted this year on controlled con-trolled Arizona ranges whereas rates as low as 21 per cent were reported on ranges without coyote coy-ote control. |
