Show Nicholas G. Smith Represents L. D. S. Church Authorities At Quarterly Conference Sunday Mt. Smith, Assistant to Quorum of Twelve Talks On Tithing Nicholas G. Smith, assistant to I the Quorum of Twelve represented represent-ed the General Authorities of the L D S Church in their quarterly conference held Sunday at the Roosevelt Stake Ward chapel. Sunday morning conference opened op-ened with a session of the Stake Priesthood which convened at 9:00 o'clock. The first general session was held at 10:30 with Mr. Smith, President Ray E. Dill-man, Dill-man, counselors, Russel Todd and Leland M. Angus and Stake Clerk John E. Wiscombe present. Russel Todd conducted the exercises ex-ercises which consisted of community com-munity singing "Welcome Happy Hap-py Sunday"; invocation, E. J. Nixon; community singing, "How Firm a Foundation"; remarks re-marks by Russel Todd; Frank R. Walker, superintendent of the Alterra Seminary who served under Mr. Smith while he was President of the California mission mis-sion spoke upon the opportunities opportuni-ties offered under the priesthood; priest-hood; Ray G. Labrum who also served as a missionary under Mr. Smith while he was president of the Northwestern States mission, related some of his experiences; Mrs. Blanche Murphy, the president presi-dent of the Stake YLMIAex-presssed YLMIAex-presssed appreciation of the opportunities op-portunities offered her in the church; Paul E. Nelson, president presi-dent of the Y M M I A also expressed ex-pressed appreciation of his opportunities op-portunities in serving in church organizations; Mrs. Lela Labrum president of the Stake Primary association reported some of the activities of the organization; Frank R. Walker sang, "Bless This Home"; he was accompanied accompan-ied by Mrs. Nettie Reynolds; Mr. Smith spoke on tithing; community commun-ity singing "Come Let Us Anew" benediction; Loyal Perry The second session of the conference con-ference convened at 2 o'clock; the following program was carried car-ried out; President Ray E. Dill-man Dill-man conducted the exercises; community singing, "Come Let Us One and All; invocation, Herald Her-ald Crapo; community singing, "O, Say What is Truth"; Leland M. Angus acting for the Stake Clerk, John E. Wiscombe whose voice was affected by a cold presented pre-sented the general and stake authorities for the sustaining vote of the members; Mrs. Nicholas Nich-olas G. Smith spoke of the pleasure plea-sure she had had in being present pres-ent at the conference; Mrs. Margaret Mar-garet Wiscombe, president of the Stake Relief society gave a report re-port of the activities of the organization; or-ganization; Deone Spencer reported re-ported the activities of his quorum quor-um of Elders; Ned G. Gines and Otto Lloyd spoke of their association assoc-iation with their quorums; A. Lamar Gledhill who labored as a missionary under Mr. Smith expressed his appreciation for his association with Mr. and Mrs. Smith; H. Bartley Heiner, president presi-dent of the Roosevelt Seminary spoke on present day conditions that affect lives; Avard A. Rig-by Rig-by accompanied by Mrs. Nettie Reynolds sang, "In the Garden of Tomorrow"; Leland M. Angus I urged more activity and cooperation cooper-ation in the Aaronic Priesthood work; President Ray E. Dillman gave some examples of how testimony testi-mony comes to those who work diligently; Mr. Smith also spoke of missionary work and urged parents to guard their children and prepare them tor the proo-lems proo-lems that will face them; community com-munity singing. "The Spirit Like a Fire is Burning"; benediction, Daniel F. Mitchell. The evening session was prepared pre-pared by the Roosevelt Stake Primary association; theme was, "Sermons in Songs"; The following follow-ing program was carried out; organ or-gan prelude by Effie Wilde; community com-munity singing led by Erma An-derton An-derton accompanied by Phillts Wardle "Welcome to All"; invocation invo-cation by Alta Phillips; trio, "Boys and Girls Like You" by Lela Labrum, Carrie Wills and Erma Anderton accompanied by PhilUs Wardle; welcome remarks re-marks by Lela Labrum; reader for the pageant, Blanche Murphy "Gratitude" illustrated by "Thanksgiving Prayer" by the Primary chorus; "Odedience" by a duet "The Light Divine" by Minnie Angus and Erna Stolla accompanied by Verda Rasmus-sen; Rasmus-sen; "Service" by community singing "Called to Serve"; "Prayer" by a duct by Phillis Wardle and Lillian Wilkerson and a violin solo by Carrie Wills; "Example" by a musical reading by Fawn Leavitt accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Wilde and a duet "Life's Mirror by Minnie Angus and Barbara Timothy, accompanied ac-companied by Verda Rasmussen; "Love" by the chorus singing "The Call of Love"; community singing "I Think When I Read That Sweet Story1'; benediction by Ollen Timothy. |
