Show Riders Romp Over Springville After Gunnison Defeat Reports reaching the Basin from the University of Utah field house indicate that the Rough Riders were defeated Wednesday night by Gunnison in the state cage tournament as the result of a bad case of jitters. Apparently the local boys started out with plenty of fire and moved ahead of the Gunni-' son quintet, but the wind left their sails when the Sanpete county aggregation forged ahead by 5 points. Except for an obvious ob-vious case of stage fright, the Riders reportedly looked good. Roosevelt's second squad was thrown into the game in the third quarter and did a good job of holding the opposition In check. In the final fifteen min utes the llrst string took the floor again and held Gunnison scoreless while chalking up nine points. j Snyder, Roosevelt spark-plug, as usual was held from the game until it became apparent that he was needed. His appearance on the floor brought the revival so familiar to Uintah Basin basketball basket-ball fans during the past local season. Coach Crittenden's st.ra-1 tegy has been to withhold Snyder until the team appeared to be lagging, and Wednesday the strategy worked well. But the jitters in the early minutes of the game had taken their toll. - The Rough Riders came back with a vengeance Thursday afternoon, af-ternoon, in their second game of the stale tournament and squeezed squeez-ed a 32-31 decision out of Springville. In what was' described des-cribed by a radio commentator as the outstanding game of the tournament thus far, Roosevelt overcame a one point lead In the last five seconds of the game to emerge victorious. |
