Russel Todd Named Chairman; UHS Plans Awaited The school boards of Duchesne and Uintah counties have both passed a joint resolution establishing estab-lishing a joint board and granting grant-ing it power to build, maintain and operate a Union high school near Roosevelt. Announcement of the action was made Tuesday by W. Russel Todd, of the Uintah school board, and chairman of the newly created joint board. The resolution was adopted by the Uintah county school leaders lead-ers on February 8 and by the Duchesne county board on Feb. 14. Organization was effected on Feb. 14 at a meeting in 'Roosevelt. 'Roos-evelt. By mutual agreement the Union high school board will be composed of two members from each of the school boards concerned and the superintendents superintend-ents of the Uintah and Duchesne county districts. A member who will represent the State Department Depart-ment of Public Instruction will be appointed at a later date. Sitting as members of the first consolidated group, which will direct the planning and building of the Union high school are W. Russel Todd, chairman, and Ralph Siddoway from the Uintah Uin-tah board; Gordon Harmston, vice chairman, and William Harris from the Duchesne board; . .Superintendent Harold Lundell of the Uintah district, who will serve as secretary, and Superintendent Super-intendent W. J. Bond of the Duchesne Du-chesne district. i -f ""Hans isr-lhc UniCn :gh school are expected to be completed com-pleted and turned over to the board within 3 weeks, Mr. Todd reported Tuesday. In their finished fin-ished state the plans will call for the construction of a building build-ing embracing 46,000 feet of space. They will provide for 18 classrooms and a gymnasium with a seating capacity of 1000. The joint board recognizes the space specified in the plans as being the absolute minimum required re-quired for carrying out the Union high school program. Board members will not hazard haz-ard a guess as to when actual construction will commence. Originally, it was thought that work could be started late this fall, but the changing of the plans twice to stay within the limits of available funds in itself it-self makes an early start remote. Other details, involving the financing fi-nancing schedule, still must be disposed of. As a representative of both the Union high school board and the Uintah school district, Mr. Todd left Wednesday morning to attend the National Educa- tional Association convention being be-ing held at San Francisco. He was accompanied by Superintendent Superin-tendent Lundell, Ernest Johnson, John-son, clerk of the Uintah board, Karl Richens and Hyrum Slaugh, members of the Uintah board. Superintendent W. J. Bond will represent the Duchesne district dis-trict at the convention and may be accompanied by Marion Harrison, Har-rison, board member. Cliff Mick-elson, Mick-elson, clerk, and Floyd Holm, secondary school supervisor. |
