Show Sant chairs state league -- I At the annual business session of the Utah League of Cities and Towns, the general membership unanimously elected Norman R. Sant, Mayor of Sunset, as league president. Mr. Sant is only the second official from Davis County to be elected to the presidency. HE SERVED as chairman of the vitally important league resolutions resolu-tions committee during the recent convention and was instrumental in securing the support of many legislators on the return to cities of the V sales tax monies originally held by the state for flooding. This issue will be heard during the up-v up-v 'nir. legislative session, a news relet: from the league says. Mr. Sant has served as mayor of Sunset for eight years and prior to that was a city councilman. He has been deeply involved with League activities since 1977, servingon va rious policy committees, and as first chairman of the state council of mayors for two and one-half years. He was a member of the League's board of directors for one year before being elected as second vice president and first vice president presi-dent chairs of the League. IN 1982, he was honored as the "Outstanding Elected Official" for the year at the League's annual convention. He has long been recognized as the voice for small cities and towns, especially in matters such as the sales tax issue which resulted re-sulted in a compromise position whereby small cities and towns share in the sales tax revenue regardless re-gardless of the point of sale. This compromise has resulted in additional addi-tional monies to these small cities and towns not previously available to them. MAYOR SANT has been s strong leader within the League and played an important part in bringing about major changes in 1 policy and direction when League membership was in a turmoil. His leadership provided the continuity which has resulted in the strong position the League holds today, and its continued growth in membership, mem-bership, the news release says. In Sunset, he has been active in 1 sports and athletics, serving as coach and director of the little league recreation program for Id years. L.
