| Show SACRILEGE we deplore having again to refer to the system under which the dances ire arc conducted in the meeting house bouse at this place but we feel that by sealing our hand band in such matters matte is weare we are derelict to our duty the dance in the meeting house on friday the 3rd ard dinst was simply a disgrace to any civilised civilized civili sed community and the desecration of the mooting meeting house a house used tor for the worship of god is to be deeply regretted by every right thinking person mormon or gentile ono one man was so drunk that he went into a maudlin sleep on one of the benc benches tes and there were others more or less intoxicated this Is no unusual thing for a dance rarely occurs here but what tile the effects of the cursed drink is observable on tile morning after one dance we counted six quart bitter bottles lying around the exterior of the meeting house Ts Is such a condition of affairs to be permitted to exist aie parents going to see their sons and daughters on the high to perdition without an effort being made to remedy the evil why in this and other instances are the offenders allowed to go unpunished Is it right that the daughters of our citizens should be insulted by the attentions of drunken men with impunity better far better that such dances cease altogether if they cannot be so conducted that parents will feel sate safe in permitting their children to attend without tear fear of contamination tami nation A feeling prevails among a portion of this community that it is better to pass pasa over these outrageous outbreaks than to give them publicity this is very wrong such a course simply encourages cou rages repetition another reason which we have heard beard advanced is that it if the dances are conducted under too rigid rules the he young men will not attend but will go elsewhere to dance this appears to us a good solution ot of the trouble if it is made compulsory for the joung men to behave decorously the sacredness of the meeting house can be maintained but it if on the other baud band they are so lot lost to all sense of propriety that they will not attend because the dance 1 is s conducted in a civilized civilised civili civill sed manner it is much better to let them go elsewhere and a good rd Jance dance too in justice to the rising generation such conduct must bu be suppressed |
