| Show PLANS BEING MADE TO SOLVE LABOR PROBLEM IN 1942 the utah division of the united unite states employment service is making all possible preliminary plans to assure utah farmers agricultural labor tor for fhi jhc 1942 harvest joseph S mayer acting director of the division announced yesterday mr mayer would make no pre regarding the farm labor su supply p except to state that the united states employment service was bending every effort to see that not only utah but all other had sufficient labor to take care of the food for victory harvest ira C curtis manater of the logan office of the employment service assured farmers of this community thit that his offee in cooperation with other united states employment service offices would do everything possible t avoid savoid any shortage of labor in this area farmers Fan ners of the rocky mountain region are being called upon to produce more food to ito win the war mr mayer said and the united states employment service and other appropriate agencies are fully aware of the problems ahead labor must be supplied for the care of sugar beets potatoes peas cherries peaches apples berries and various kinds of garden crops labor labar must also be found for livestock growers through the plans now being formulated local farmers may hire not only local and regional workers but will he be able to draw dupoin labor resources of oher ober areas not being used in those arvas areas experience of the past year indicates the urgent necessity for the complete use of ovail available able local labor and this will require the tapping 4 1 of every possible resource raco rf co i food production campaign made necessary yF by the emergency wil call for full output for all awes of avail available abie productive and and full fall employment employs e nt of all potential farm labor otherwise the rationing of important import int productive foods may prove necessary within a year food must be provided for a much larger army and navy and larger benj lease operations and tor for necessary additions to the ithe diet of millions of defense workers these indicated increases of 10 million in the combat forces and to 0 mi million lilion war industry workers also mean that farm labor resources will be drained but with the cooperative effort of farm organizations united states ETI em service and other agencies we are certain that utah farmers will ue oa able to meet the challenge of more food production |
