Show FOR FATTENING THE LAMBS experiments with shelled corn and alfalfa hay furnish valuable comparison for breeder W C coffee coffe chief in sheep husband rn at the university of 0 illinois has completed his experiments on the pro portion of shelled corn and alfalfa bay for fattening western lambs cambs the ex perl ment also furnishes a valuable alu able comparison comp irison of the feeding and market qualities of wether ether and en ewe e lambs and shows shams the effects ot of earl and late shearing on the feeding operations as a whole western limbs lambs which had been pur ch chimed ed on the chicago market about a ear ago were used in the experiment tho these were vere divided into two main groups group one was fed the largest quantity of corn that it was vias pos possible gible to get the lambs to consume with ith just enough hay to keep them healthy health and thriving group two amo was nas fed a large amount of ha with mith just enough corn to put them in choice market condl condi tion in experiment or group one four lots of wether lambs were mere fed as nearly as possible like two of the lots of wether mether lambs in experiment no 2 three lots of lambs were shared early earl and three were mere sheared late in each experiment the lambs ing the largest proportion ol of corn mide made the largest gains the difference be ameen tw een wether mether and ewe evne lambs in feed ing and market qualities were nere slight shorn lambs ate more feed than un shorn lambs in warm marm weather but there was mas little difference between them in gains and no difference in market quality limbs lambs left in the fleece until the end of the experiment sheared from 2 to 2 75 pounds per head bead more than early earll shorn lambs and on this account returned more profit |
