Show A PLEA there is a rumor current to the effect that the city council is delaying action in the matter of sidewalk improvements prove ments because the aldermen think that too much suasion hah hab been brought to bear upon them in fact it has been learned from what seems to be a reliable source that one of the city councilmen remarked a few days ago that he would urge immediate action in the matter if it were not for the fact that he did not like to be forced could anything be more preposterous than this childish plea the council harshad has had all the time it could have desired to toss up straws to learn in what direction the wind of public sentiment Is blowing we will venture the assertion that if the mayor and the city council had availed themselves of this opportunity there would be sidewalks on main street at the present time in view of this fact the public would be justified in requesting the council to take prompt and immediate ae action tion but fortunately the public is patient and long suffering and his has brought very little pressure to bear on its servants the reaper has kept in touch with the public in this mitter matter and has always aiwas tried to be conservative in dealing with the subject it has pur purposely poely refu refused ed to treat the matter in some of its issues because it did not aish ish to em embarrass barass the aldermen and the ma maor or it has riven given them opportunity to crown themselves with the glory of having the initiative in the most important phases ot the si sidewalk devalk proposition but the council his has steadfastly refused to act it about time for the public to use ue 1 I little suns suasion 7 and now comes our honor honorable ae councilman with the plea thit that he does not like to be forced who put him in his present embar embarrassing assing position 7 Is it just to make the public suffer because he be and some of his colleagues hac bane blundered repeatedly 7 |
