is about three hundred feet wide at its base it is cut at right an angles acs bv a narrow bulley which makes it possible to form a cone conception eption in regard to its structure there was some question as to the pa possibility of marketing the product of the mill but fortunately the last doubt was put to flight by air Ehr sams fisit asit Itis it is said that the mills of the intermountain country have not been able to fill their orders some of them are now filling orders which they received three months ago and there ire indications that the demand is constantly increasing there are I 1 however many other uses to which gypsum is being devoted and new processes of treatment are being discovered disco ered one of these which bids fair to surpass plaster of paris pans in the matter of popularity is 13 ane manufacture of keene cement this ll 11 process icess has been thoroughly tested in europe notably in england but it is still looked upon as being a in the united states at present there are only two keene lement cement mills in this country one of which is located at medicine lodge kans and the other at acme N AT keene cement is used as a substitute for polished marble in some of the most costly buildings in the large cities one of its principal uses is in the construction of mop boards although its application is constantly being en tended it hns has a hard finish and bears a close resemblance to highly polished white italian marble the principal constituents of K iccone cene cement are gypsum and alum both are found in abundance in this county there are I birge irge alum deposits near the railroad about six si miles north of marsdale Mars vale and as m nearly marly arly as can be learned this alum has properties which adapt it to the manufacture of the cement A local company has located these alum deposits since mr ehr sams departure and it now controls approximately fifteen quartee sections of the valuable alu able owing to the miny many uses to which keene cement is being put it is at present impossible to foree a time when the demand will be circumscribed d the expert assured the promoters of the local companies that he would find a reada market for the product and advised them to lose no time in getting in on the ground floor mr ehrsam will nill inspect the keene cement plant at Medi ein lodge and will secure all the aai available lable data on oil the of the product he be he will attempt to interest the local company in the matter and it is probable that sevier county will have the third keene cement mill in the united states
