Show public health nurses submit annual report birth outnumbered deaths nearly 3 2 to 1 in sevier county during 1939 according to an annual report released recently by the sevier county public health nurses miss lavon greenwood and miss pearl black the number of deaths reported was III and the number of births was also of interest in the report is the notation that cases of communicable diseases were reported during the year and that 60 crippled children have been brought to the attention of the health workers for an effective public health nursing program the public health authorities recommend a ratio of one nurse to 2000 population because of an excessive load for the two nurses bedside nursing and delivery service cannot be given in sevier county the report affirms regular child health conf conferences erencen were held in richfield Richtie ld monroe elsinore joseph redmond and with a total atten attendance d of a cost of at these conferences children were immunized against diphtheria dip theria and against smallpox twelve special conferences were held for preschool pro pre school children out of school entrants registered in the county attended and each received a health examination while were immunized against diphtheria dip theria and smallpox nursing visits were listed as follows communicable disease venereal disease 49 tuberculosis 8 maternity infant preschool pre school school morbidity crippled children unclassified 1539 during 1939 the public health nurses admitted 23 children under the crippled childrens service thirteen received active treatment in salt lake at a total cost of 2 twenty nine sevier county children children were examined at the crippled childrens diagnostic clinic ic for district 5 and 34 were examined for speech defects defea ts following which a special speech clinic was held complete surveys of all schools 1 in n the county were made and recommendations offered for improvements prove ments funds for the public health nurses program came from the following sources state board of health maternal and child health division crippled childrens division 2220 public health nursing division sevier school district 1350 total 6 sevier county is the only county in the health district which does not make a financial contribution to the program the following general statement appears in the report the public health nursing service in sevier county is available to the entire community it is a generalized program including communicable disease control prenatal and postnatal care infant and preschool pre school hygiene school hygiene morbidity home nursing and crippled childrens service the public health nurse is always available to teach bedside care to the physicians orders to assist in setting up isolation technique and to teach simple methods of healthful living in the home |
