Show telluride u E g amea other crew members feel shock when lightning strikes line lloyd E olsen 38 of redmond was killed and reed blomquist 35 of richfield was knocked unconscious conscious on when a bolt of lightning struck the high tension electric line on which the two men with a crew of ten others from the telluride power co were working two EWO miles south of circleville Cir cleville at about p m tuesday blomquist sustained no permanent injuries and after regain regaining mg consciousness sought aid for his companion he suffered from shock however and while taking a shower an hour or two after the accident discovered that his legs from the knees down were just beginning to regain normal color after being turned almost black A blister on his foot was the only mark of the accident left by wednesday morning the men were vere doing retie work on the line with the current off the lightning bolt struck the line somewhere near the south end of the section on which the men were working george brox of marys vale supervisor of the job said and traveled some distance along the he wire before reaching them the men at the south end were changing locations at the time and were wera not on he stires martin peterson of richfield was knocked down by the shock brox said olson apparently had a firm hold on the wire when the bolt struck and received the full force of the lightning discharge he and blomquist were working on the middle wire of the three attached to the poles the men working on the outside wires felt only a slight shock hok the main force of the lightning apparel apparently antly following the middle line mr blomquist estimated that probably five or ten minutes elapsed before he regained consciousness ness and found that he and olsen were hanging limply from their safety belts after trying in vain to aid olsen he climbed down the pole waded the river and made his way to the highway from where a passing car took ihm to the nearest crew about half a mile from the scene of the accident members of the crew lowered olsons body by ropes and be began bean it an fir first staid aid treatment and artiff artificial al respiration together with da dr r kirk L jenkins of marysvale Marys vale they worked for more than three hours in a vain attempt to revive olsen the line on which the men were working was a newly completed volt line from junction to panguitch other workmen on the line were lee parks richfield carl cramer richfield alpheus pierce gunnison kenneth borg richfield martin peterson richfield earl brox marysvale Marys vale wells dalton marysvale Marys vale marcel larson marys vale gale wright richfield and cal Mad madsen seft salina mr olsen was born january 22 1901 at axtell a son of hans C and lina anderson olson he moved to gunnison with kith his parents in 1920 and lived there until after his marriage to reva peterson in 1932 when he moved to redmond he is survived by his widow two sons robert lloyd 5 and lynn jay 1 all of redmond his parents who live at gunnison a brother newell olson of axtell and two sisters mrs deveda gribble and mrs margaret kearns both of gunnison |
